We had a visit from the red devil early one morning last week and lost one of our hens that was free ranging. The fox didn't make of with the bird as I disturbed him and quickly locked the other two away. However since then they have been unhappy, it would appear and have laid no eggs. I know one of them was heading towards being broody but is this normal behaviour because of shock or something?

The fox visit will have really un nerved them just give them time and they will soon be back on form.

Mine went off laying for ages after a fox got one of their sisters.
Sorry for your loss. Its a horrid way to lose one.

It's funny, 2 of mine were attacked by the dog and it has never put them off one day (eben though I had to patch them up and inject them), they were out roaming about the next day.

One went missing so I presume doggie finished it, but again no impact.

The fox killed 27  in the neighbourhood last week... so I think I should be thankful for the dog (and the 9 cats ) as it probably keeps the fox at bay on our farm
