We live in SW France and looking for a couple of Donkeys has anyone got advice for us please

What sort of advice?

If it is care, then you will need more than one, (they get lonely otherwise and do what they can to escape!) good fencing, a shelter, to get out of the rain particularly, a regular farrier to keep hooves trimmed and neat....and definitely no lush grass.

Donkeys are very long lived, and can be real characters. Good luck with them, and if you do get some....don't forget we need pictures.

Donkeys are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. 

A friend of mine used to work at a stable where they had a donkey - Duncan - who was turned out with the horses.  Duncan used to systematically go around the field perimeter, leaning on all the fences to find a weak spot.  Once found, he used to lean on it until it gave way and then lead all the horses out after him!

They are lovely animals but will need a field shelter to ensure they can get out of wet weather.

I read recently that the reason donkeys and mules have the reputation for being stubborn is that they won't do things that endanger themselves, unlike horses, just because a human tells them so. Interesting how we interpret these things isn't.
