Is radish a seasonal Veg?
« on: June 24, 2021, 07:24 »
Good Morning Gardening People
I'm sorry I'm sure this may have been discussed but I can't find it on the search.
I didn't used to like Raddish but I grew some French Breakfast in the Spring and they were delicious and creamy but now they are running to seed and tend to be woody and a bit bitter.  Is it too hot? Maybe I'm not watering enough (although I doubt it).  What's going on?

Tips would be most appreciated.

Thanks
J

You need to sow small amounts of radish every few weeks.
They are best when young and do become woody and run to seed over time.
They may need watering if it’s very dry but other than that they can be grown till the weather turns. HH
Keep digging

Also if there’s a hot spell the flavour will soon change and get aggressively hot.

Radishes grow to harvest size over a fairly short period of time (see seed packet).  They will bolt to seed and become pithy in hot weather.  When that happens, pull them out, they are done. Sow again after the weather becomes seasonally cooler.

You can pickle the seed pods, quite tasty too.
