Hi Kathy & welcome
If it is an F1 variety then best not to bother. Otherwise have a look at this thread : http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=9838

Just do what I do.
I've never managed to grow tomatoes from seed. However, I do throw my leftover tomatoes in my garden compost, and year in year out, among my flower beds I get great tomato plants!!

I'm not sure you realised what you said there Mashahuk!!!! You don't grow toms from seed, you just chuck your leftover toms on the compost heap and get great tomatoes. Well, if that isn't growing them from seed, what is? :D :D My Brian said the best tomatoes he ever had he used to get from a man who worked at the local sewage plant!!!! Until he tasted mine of course!!!!!

I know, but all I ever manage to grow is your bog standard salad tomatoes from the supermarket, not the nice cherry or yellow or whatever ones that I've bought the seeds of. Maybe next year instead of trying to grow my bought seeds in trays etc I'll just chuck them straight in the compost!

Are you growing them indoors or out? Try Sungold next year. The best flavoured cherry tomato ever (IMHO) and dead easy to grow.
Ailsa Craig is hard to beat for flavour if you find cherry types difficult.

:( another failier of mine. I planted 54 plants, some from seed and some cuttings and I got the dreaded blight. I lost the lot.
