2 greenhouses in to 1
« on: June 17, 2011, 12:40 »
Hi all, on my allotment I have two 8x6 greenhouses and was thinking at the end of the summer to join them together to make one long one, 16x6, they are both aluminum, I would re-site them in the middle of the plot so I could prepare the base before moving them, plus would have to drill and bolt them together, The first advantage would be to move them away from the mares tail weed, and they would be closer to the water supply.
Has anyone done this and can anyone see any pit fulls.

As long as eaves height/roof pitch is the same on both models I can't see there being a problem.
Have you checked that the widths are the same (6ft width is only nominal, rather than actual) or you may need to be creative at the join :) Good luck!

We were thinking about this at one time, but our greenhouses are different sizes.  The thing that I thought would be good, was that if you don't take the whole middle bit out, but just open up the doorway bit, it would be easier to close off a section if you want one half more insulated than the other half.

Is the metal strong enough to take a 16' roof run? Maybe a ridge pole might be a good idea
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I`ve done the same thing that your thinking about and it`s been a big help. I didn`t have any problems with the joint and having two doors really helps with ventilation on the odd hot day.

The only problem, if it is one, is that it`s not big enough already!
I can remember when it were all fields round `ere.

Now I was going to bolt the two greenhouses together but with one doorway in the center (oops) as pointed out door each end would help with ventilation.
Will give them both a good measure to make sure they will go together.
My master plan was to remove all glass from both then move metal frame 1 and 2 to resting place, get wife to wash glass then hay presto one long greenhouse, "I think" what could go wrong. ::)
