white spots under leaves
« on: June 16, 2011, 20:42 »
Hi growers,

I noticed something seems to be eating the brussel sprout leaves. it looks like caterpillars but i maybe wrong. Checked the leaves under and over and can't find anything. I noticed under the leaves are tiny white spots, i can rub these off with ease. i'm not sure what these are, any ideas?

MOS, i thought from reading on here enviromesh kept whitefly out. I usually get serious problems with them but no signs yet amazingly.

Your white spots may be eggs of cabbage white butterflies. After a day or two they will hatch into caterpillars and eat your plants. Look at them with a hand lens.

It's whitefly. I spray mine with soft soapy water. the whitefly seems to have arrived early here this year.

ok, thanks all for the info.

there are small eaten holes in the leaves too.

I will check the underside of all the leaves of cabbage, cauli, brussels and brocoli for these white spots and rub them off. they're all netted but i admit its not fine netting, just to keep the birds away.
