Title: Spent elderberries
Post by: grenhouse on September 02, 2011, 09:21
I have just strained my first batch of elderberry wine into demijons. It seems an awful waste to chuck the berries away, does anyone do anything else with them or should I just bin them?

Thanks

Steve

i add 2 liters of white grape juice and about half kilo of sugar top it up to 1 gallon of water leave it for 4 or 5 days and rack into demijohns and ferment to dry for a nice rose
if you have made more than one gallon of elderberry then adjust these quantities acordingly

The Yanks are heavily into re-using the berries again, they call the second use a 'blush'.  Think I'll give it a try.     Cheers,    Tony.
