Carrots in a tub have bolted??? There are no carrots under all the green :-( what can I plant mow in the tub is it too late to try again with carrots?(maybe a different variety? If not carrots then what? ( not lettuce or spring onions as I have lots growing thanks

I would plant potatoes, if you have any new ones that you are digging up and plant them now they will be perfect for Christmas Day

Carrots do not normally flower or produce seed until their second year.

However, bolting may occur during a cold spell or during changes in day length.
During unsettled weather conditions early in the season it is possible that flowers may be triggered in the first year.
This often occurs after a prolonged cold or dry spell but it is also possible that cold nights or hot days or even late frosts could contribute to bolting.
Successive sowing of carrot seed will probably help achieve a constant supply of decent carrots if the weather is changeable.
Carrots are really cool-weather plants.
Growing them in unusually warm weather often results in unsavoury texture and poor flavour or colour.

It is, therefore, surprising that anyone manages to grow carrots successfully in the UK. 

I have made 4 sowings of carrots this year.
2 of those have produced excellent results.
The other 2 are miserable failures. (although none have bolted).


If you don't have the space to make multiple sowings then I would suggest that you look for the few bolt-resistant seed varieties that are available.
