eggs in incubator
« on: June 30, 2007, 19:26 »
Evening, ive got 6 eggs in incubator, tomorrow is the last time to turn them, when i turned them earlier i could hear chirping, listened to all 6 eggs and heard chirping from 5 of them, im assuming they will hatch on wednesday sometime, once theyve hatched im not really sure what to do, i think im to leave them alone for 24 hours, as yet ive not got a brooder, any ideas what i could use, i do have a glass fishtank about 18" x12" will this do,im getting some chick crumb tomorrow, what kind of water feeder will i need? also do i need to put something under the eggs before they hatch??? all tips and suggestions greatly apprieciated, thanks

Im not sure the fishtank would work for 5 chickens, as  we  had 4 and had to use 2 Heatalator cardboared  boxes  for pecking puposes. As for a feeder and waterer, these would be useful.Hope you can find them near you.

colour will change in the adult bird. leave them alone for 24 hours in the incubator check that they all have straight toes if they have crooked toe syndrome then unfortunatly they will need to be killed. after 24 hours they need to go under a warm light a normal low wat house bulb will do as long as its about 5 inches above there heads water and food must now be given and then its a case of watch and wait till they are feathered up and then switch light of and let harden of as you would with plants.
hope this has helped

ps fish tank is to small just get a big cardboard box.
