Puttanesca sauce
« on: March 18, 2022, 16:05 »
I have just seen a recipe for a whole leg of lamb cooked very slowly.  Amongst other things it says to use this sauce and anchovies, neither of which I can use.    Any substitute ideas please, particularly for the sauce.  Thanks,  Mrs Bouquet

Is it just the anchovies that you can't eat (both in the sauce and separately) ?
If so, you could just use any tomato based sauce, with a pinch of chilli powder - the anchovies just make the sauce less sweet and more savoury. A meat flavoured stock cube, or similar, added to the sauce should do the same thing.

Thanks Mum,  Yes anything to do with fish, urgh.  That sounds like a plan, I shall do that and chuck a few black olives in etc.   Mrs Bouquet
