Title: What time do you let your chooks out????
Post by: sarah* on June 05, 2006, 21:57
Hello!
Well, I have 2 blue bells, 2 black rock crosses and light sussex hens and I love them!!
Reading over everyone's comments I do struggle with their identity as pets or livestock - but I will cross that bridge when I come to it..However, I do have a question   ...
We have had our chickens for just three months and every morning come rain or shine my husband is up at six to let them out as the door is quite big and is bolted shut at night time - I hope this isn't a daft question but I'm guessing there is no way round this unless we make another door with a timer to let them out in the morning - what do others do??

Thanks

Hi Sarah, OH is usually up before me, and when we had our chooks or turkeys, he would let them out early, but really, whenever we got up.  I know someone who doesn't let their chooks out til late morning, as they all lay their eggs while still inside, then they go out and enjoy themselves in the fresh air, but all the eggs are inside the house ready for collecting!!

hello - thanks for your reply, I'm guessing that you friend had water and food in side - or maybe not, we are still learning -

I'm just weighing up our options as my husband is looking very tired at the moment!
