Title: Desiree Potatoes query
Post by: InWarwickshire on November 22, 2020, 12:04
Just joined the forum, so hi to all. :)
My favourite `all round cooking potato ` is Desiree. This year I had a problem with the seed which I chit in a spare room. They all got coated whith a sticky substance and so disposed of them. This was about March time just as the Covid was about to rear its ugly self.
Then I found it difficult to find replacement seeds and reluctently bought desiree from Wilko`s.
My  crop this year was blooming awful.
I found out later that my neighbour also grew a crop from the sam supplier and had a bad crop.
Now, the strange thing is that non of the Supermarkets have any Desiree potatoes on their shelves and haven`t had for months. This is very unusual because it is a regular in any shop.
Anyone have a clue what`s happened?

Welcome to the site  :)

I haven't heard anything specific about Desiree potatoes this year, but the weather has been very erratic and i think that could have impacted many varieties.

When they first appeared Desiree were very nice spud. IMHO their quality diminished since around the mid/late 80,s. Thoughts anyone?
