RASBERRIES HELP
« on: October 07, 2006, 19:41 »
HI,
we have been working hard on our new allotment and managed to get a small section dug over and weeded to plant out our onions which we did today. :D

there is still along way to go and we sprayed the rest of the allotment with weed killer.
the last section of our allotment was still nettles that we chopped down also today.
hiden in the nettles were 2 rasberry bushes which we dug up before spraying more weed killer.

what do we do with them now??  :? i want to replant them else where but can i split them and do i have to cut them down to about 6" above ground level.
there is some fresh buds (leaves) apearing on some of the stems

what can i do for the best?

cheers kim

In my experience you can cut them right down now and move them in a month or so when they're dormant. When they sprout up again in the spring just tie them into some sort of support and see what happens.
You'll be able to tell whether you have summer or autumn fruiting ones and therefore how to prune them from then on.
Hope this helps
The ones I've inherited on my plot are lovely. If you do move them, dig in plenty of compost/rotted manure to cheer them up.
Just read your post properly... just dig them in where you want them to be and cut them right back so they can recover - plenty of compost will help.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
