Choose me a pot plant for my desk
« on: September 24, 2008, 21:44 »
I'm looking to buy a special pot plant for my desk at work and i can't pick one. I don't mind if it's flower, tree, bush, veg or fruit but i would prefer something scented. What would be a good pick that would live for years?

I love my orchids. I buy the cheap, past their sell by dates ones and then largely ignore them. Very occasionally remember to water them and they seem to thrive and flower again and again.

I had a lime for ages too and the scent on that especially when flowering is fabulous!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I used to have a begonia years ago. they're quite nice. :)

It depends on the aspect of your desk. Some plants like full sun, some won't tolerate draughts, etc.

And does it get very cold at night ?? (I once worked in a portakabin which got VERY cold at night, and through most of the morning :? ).

they flower for ever, with the minimum effort, I just think they're a lovely little plant

problem with plants at work are that the soil always attracts those damned little flies, and you need to be careful of watering them around your pc/monitor etc in case of spills.

I'd say go for the orchids too; they tolerate the sorts of conditions that offices have;  ie constant temperature / no draughts / no smoking etc and they look really pretty.

Can you get one that smells nice too, Kate?

Some of these suggestions are lovely.. I've gone with a spider plant that's currently a baby on an existing plant.

Oh and a bonsai tree, but haven't picked one yet. But that won't be for my desk, t'would die within a week.

xx
I couldn't decide which one to choose for Bamboo Fencing...
