First spuds of the year. Red Duke of York planted in pots in the greenhouse, but now outside. Really tasty alongside some asparagus and the first Tenderstem broccoli of the season. A few cougettes are starting to swell as well.

I put two plants out a couple of days ago as an experiment. They are not looking very pleased. I think they were too small. By the way, has anyone tried Fantasio tomatoes? I am  having a go with those for the first time this year. They are supposed to be quite blight resistant.

I've grown Fantasio in the greenhouse in the past and they hold up until very late in the season. The fruits are well-flavoured too.

Yes I tried that once (I found a long list of organic tricks for blight - none of which was efficacious) and it didn't work. At least they never complained to me about suffering from headaches.

My advice is to get six bottles of the strongest beer you can find. Triple Westmalle is one of the most potent beverages here in Belgium. Drink the first one, then the second one, sit down now and drink the third one,...by the time you have finished the sixth bottle you will have just as many slugs to contend with but after six Triple Westmalles you won't give a sod about the pests.

P.S. Yes, it's a dreadful year for slugs.

Chicken curry and we had crumble for pud as well, but it was figs I had bottled last year and plot berries from the freezer.  Unusual mix but very good  :)
