We can post you some pictures to save you the bother of growing it.

I believe there's one or two lurking on the internet if we Google!

Sounds like you need to be  vigilant as you dig and pull the roots out as much as you can

Not to worry too much, my plot was covered in it for the first couple of years but with a bit of hard work and a vigilant eye you will soon get on top of it, the trick is - once you see some, dig it up as quick as possible!!!

I had a terrible problem with bindweed in the top soil I used on my raised beds.  Whenever it appeared I let it grow a few leaves and the zapped it with Resolva24h.  I had to unwind it and protect the other plants but after two seasons I slowed it down a great deal.

It's not an organic solution, but I don't profess to being organic, just very careful with what I use and where I use it.  I tried digging out the roots but they are very, very long and the tiniest bit left in the soil regrows.

I echo totalnovice, on both plots we've had there was lots of bindweed but with thorough digging (and some spraying) it's limited to a few patches around the gooseberries and raspberries.

Covering areas with fabric seems to encourage most of the growth to be close to the surface so you get satisfying amounts out in a short time!

When digging over beds (esp for 1st time), I often have three buckets beside me - one for rubbish, one for compostable weeds and one for the nasty perennials, which either ends up burnt or in the green bin at home.

You have my sympathy D. My plot had loads of it. I still have a greenhouse base which was full of it. When I started to dig and found it matted with roots like someone had buried a bathful of spagetti!

One part of the base is taunting me to dig it out - I had to dig the first section 3 times before I could turn over a forkful without getting roots. I still missed a load and have resorted to glyphosphating it now.

Persevere and while you will never win you will get it manageable.

Look at the bright side, for it could be worse: it is at least not illegal.

There are some you have to notify the council about seeing...
