Any ideas what likes to munch bays and what can get rid of it.

I seem to have the same problem, not found the culprit yet! :(

Yikes!

I'm afraid, don't know. Might it be some caterpillar or sawfly damage? :?

my 2 looked the same about 2 weeks ago (dont know what it was though)
I took off all the damaged leaves, and gave them a good feed and a good water (container grown)
They are ok now,and sprouting new leaves all over
I just assumed they were dropping the old leaves and forming new ones in the spring sunshine, as I never saw any pests on them

I can't find the original thread, but anyway.

My bay tree was having probs like a few others, leaves browning and looking very sickly - I followed the advice given by some members, repotted with good compost and gave it a bit of care and now it's looking so healthy and lively again - growing new leaves left right and centre.

Thanks all.

As the bay trees are in pots has anyone considered the possibility of vine weevil larvae in the soil.  The adults crawl into pots and lay their eggs which I believe I'm right in that they feed on the roots.  Horrible looking things, creamy white and ridged about 1 cm long with short wiggly legs.  I found they had got into a bag of left over compost from last year.
