12 foot bean/pea frame
« on: April 08, 2018, 07:36 »
I have used the Bean frame idea and made a 12 foot span.

Going touse middle section for beans the other 2 each side will be peas.

Intend to use bamboo poles for beans.

What would be best for peas, bamboo, netting, string/rope?

the realy looks the buisiness veg plot when i biult a frame i used scafold netting it done the job ok but i now using canes that i had to replace last year its  probubly the more cost effective than canes as they where quite expensive to replace but then my other canes did last me 20yrs

so netting mite be your best bet although i have seen strong string or bale  twine used top to bottom anyway some of our members may  come up with other suggestions

good luck with your beans or peas

PS
a good frame  for my alderman peas  :D

I find it difficult to untwiddle pea or bean plants from netting at the end of the season, and it is not very cost effective (or environmentally friendly come to that) to throw the whole thing away in a big bundle.

Jute netting can go into the compost bin but is more expensive. Peas need something to hang onto though, as they don't twine like beans, so strings might not be that good.

You could create something like DD uses along those short edges of your frame though, which could be as tall as needed

DD's pea advice in Growing FAQs and other Information - Page 1 of 3

(I am growing shorter peas this year, at about 1-1.25 m rather than the huge ones, and using a run of weldmesh for them)

For short peas I use DD's posts and strings either side method, but for tall peas I use this method but with taller wire fencing

We use chicken wire on our tall pea frame.  It is very durable and easy to disentangle the pea stems at the end of the season.  Use this for peas over 5' tall.  Others are in ordinary rows with string support as DD recommeds.

Thank you all for your comments they are very helpful.

I am thinking of using bamboo poles all along and using brown rough string/rope horizontally at 4 inch spacing. When plants have finished it should be easy to pull poles out and hopefully clean the rope.

Peas I am using = Early Onwards, Green Shaft & Alderman
