Stopping of Tomatoes.
« on: May 08, 2010, 10:21 »
At what stage do I pinch the growing point of my tomatoes out? Is it after the fifth truss has formed or to do with hieght or don't you bother? I seem to have read so many different ways that I don't really know what to do. It doesn't seem to me that I'll get many toms if I pinch out after the fifth truss.
He's my best buddy, my dog called Woody.
If it works, organic. If it don't, well.........??

Tried that last year, but every couple of weeks we had to do it again.  Little so-and-sos would have been 15 foot tall if we'd let them grow! :D

Why would you want to stop them growing? I always leave mine to grow and train them along the roof.

Cos my greenhouse is small I let one side grow on, like Aidy, but have to keep stopping the otherside when they hit the slope of the roof, or else only plant bush varieties on that side :)

I "stop" mine one month before first frost, to stop them setting any more fruit, and give the fruit that is already set time to ripen
