I'll be sowing mine in modules in the GH in a couple of weeks time ... I'd advise using the monogerm varieties for this and it's not a bad idea to push toilet roll tubes into a 24-cell tray and put in two seeds per, thin to best seedling if they both come through .... had a fabulous crop last year, still eating them pickled (and tons yet to come) ... not a big fan of them not pickled though....

I've got 60 cells of beetrootwith 6 leaves on.  They will be going out this weekend along with a row of direct sowing.

Beet are vunerable to frost when they are just poking through or even just under the soil. Once up with their seed leaves apart they should be OK. If the frost nips them as they come through you may not even notice and think they have failed to germinate.

The greater danger is that with several cold days they will bolt to seed prematurely. For this reason I always delay sowing until April. Bolthardy was selected as a strain that did not bolt so easily but in my opinion the beet are not as good as other varieties.
