Am growing masses of garlic (they were on offer and I over ordered).
A couple or rows have been flattened, either by the elements or our cats making a sunbed for themselves.
The leaves are pretty brown so I've just pulled one up so see how they're doing.
Quite a large head of garlic, but the bulbs are separating and splitting up.
Also, about 2ins up the stem was a swelling. When I pulled the stem apart it was like a small round bulb which could be squeezed out of the stem.
Sorry, I don't know the variety, but should the heads be separating, and what is the bulb in the stem?

I have some that have done the same I think the problem is the have been in the ground to long and they are just on the edge of starting to grow again I should have dug them when the seedheads started to appear, also like you I have had bulbils appear on the purple wight, I suppose in the wild the bulb would ripen the stem would dry and as it fell over the bulbil would fall away from the main bulb and have clear ground in which to grow, but someone will be along who will either agree or shoot my theory to peices.
