It looks like shoots growing from the rootstock.
Has there been any damage to the bark ? Rabbits, strimmer, bump from a garden tool etc. ?

Interesting. The tree was moved in May. I'm wondering if it took a blow from a shovel. I take it that if it is shoots then it is nothing to worry about.

it looks as if the new growths are coming from the rootstock....the bump in the trunk above is the grafting scar.
If that is so, then you need to remove any growth from below it :ohmy:

Thanks mum. Can I just cut it off with a pruning knife do you think? Or is there a special method?

Remove the area with a sharp knife and treat with tree pruning paint of some kind.
