Cultivator I need to turn my allotment over as I’ve not been there for quite awhile because of the weather what’s a good cultivator to buy a good one that’s powerful to cut into the clay soil

Good morning mdjlucan,  I presume you mean cultivator also known as a rotavator?  Speaking to a very old gardener some years ago he told me that they froth up the top ten or so inches and leave a hard pan below that which the roots find difficult to penetrate. 

Just what I heard, you can pick the bones out of that and make your own decision!

Hello try your local hire shop most do Camon rear tined rotavators usually have 9hp engines  or if you want to by one Lawnflite and Husqvarna do a wheel and rear rota model these 2 have the ability to run the rotas in reverse to go through clay soil  jezza

I don’t think you’ll be able to buy one while we’re on lock down.  It’s not an essential like food!

I have an MTD 450 PRO good machine and because I have heavy soil and a large area of ground it has done me a good job it really has but... I do not recommend using a rotavator they destroy the structure of the soil and actually make things less ideal for the soil. Having said that they do save your back! I have given up digging now so will be trying to sell mine soon.
