Title: B&S 3.5 hp classic engines
Post by: BIG ZOOK on August 04, 2009, 19:22
Hello all :).I have 3 lawnmowers with the above engines fitted. Now all the engines are very similar, with only minor bolt on ancillary differences.    They all have  different model, type and code details stamped on the metal recoil starter housing.
Now one machine is not sparking and whilst another coil may interchange with a different model? I need the three mowers going .So will the model/type/code numbers stamped on the engine,be enough to order spares from? cheers howard .

Hello Howard,
I would expect that some parts may be interchangeable...but some will be quite specific to an engine....hence the full set of numbers are the key to getting The correct item for a specific engine.

The model, type and code numbers are the key to finding the definitive spare parts info' from the parts lists downloadable freely from;  http://www2.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/

(If the blower housing that the numbers are stamped into is on the original engine)...

It's pretty rare for a coil to break these days.
Check thespark plug, cut out lead and switch before spending any money :)
