Strange tomato growth
« on: May 31, 2020, 21:19 »
Hi all,

4 out of 6 of my tomato’s are growing really strangely at the growing point and bunching up and looking odd.

Any ideas

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Hi,

I am person who created that original thread.  Unfortunately, mine are still looking rather ill and look identical to yours.
They are in big pots, good rich compost, regularly watered and are in a sunny position.

I might cut them back and see if they grow back better.

Its definitely not normal.

My answer on the other thread, still stands
Quote
Tomatoes often get curly tops when there's a big difference between daytime and nightime temperatures, which usually settles down after a few days, as the weather gets back to normal ;)
Other than that it could be bought in compost that has been contaminated with weedkiller in the green waste they've used. There was a lot of this about last year, but I haven't heard of any cases yet this year.

It has been reported in some compost from J Arthur Bower, Westlands New Horizon and Godwins. The problem is, it won’t be in all sacks, but you don’t know when you buy them. The pea or bean sowing test is worthwhile, but not a huge help if you already have bought the compost.

Mine are in a poly tunnel so definately not compost issue, so must be a temperature issue. Which would make sense
