Cut Flowers?
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:14 »
I live in a vicarage with a huge garden, lots of room for veg and still lots of space for flowers...soooo...this year I would like to grow flowers that are just for cutting, not to form a nice display or bed in garden, just rows of flowers to cut, not only for home use but for flower displays in church...any ideas...thank you

You need big bold brightly coloured flowers that last cut ...

gladioli, delphiniums, mombretia, cosmos, alstroemeria, chrysanths, dahlias, the big daisies (coneflowers, I think they are called) particularly those that flower in the autumn,

and fillers that you can cut and come again ...

gypsophila, euphorbia, ladys mantle, something with a silver foliage, .....

And of course some sweetpeas, up a net so they are nice and straight, to make sure it all smells gorgeous!

Sunflowers - not the ones that grow huge, but ones specifically bred for cutting.

Scabious, sweet williams,

daffodils, Spanish bluebells

and they will all look good in rows!

Just remembered blackeyed susans (havent a clue what the proper name is) and phlox.

Aldi and the poundshop are good places to go hunting at the moment for seeds and corms.
