Small, but perfectly formed...and a whole week earlier than I was expecting!
I'm going to have it tomorrow for breakfast!

I am so pleased for you. It really is eggciting getting the first one
It doesn't stop you from enjoying all the others to come either. Once I got the first one I was then on tenterhooks waiting for more and checking the nest boxes regularly
3 months on I still enjoy going and collecting the eggs and seeing which of the girls have laid. My eggs are all different and I am able to tell which hen laid which egg which is very useful if one goes off lay.

It was that 1 second that I had to wait for my brain to register that there was actually an egg sitting in the nest box! Did a little jump on the spot! Hoping now one of them has laid the others might think about having a go!

I had to phone all my friends and tell them about my first egg - needless to say they thought I was mad

So the first and second (
) eggs became...
Brunch! Home produced scrambled egg, with smoked salmon, homegrown dill, wilted homegrown rocket and wilted homegrown spinach on homebaked (in a breadmaker) bread.
It was flippin gorgeous!

Today is the first day I've had 3 eggs - one was there at 6am when I let the girls out, and the others were there at 10am when I gave them their greens.
So chuffed!

That is great news, congrats to you and your girls! Do you have any special plans for them today? That scrambled egg and smoked salmon looks absolutely delicious!

I never lose the eggcitement (sorry) of finding a little clutch of eggs every day, chickens are man's best friend, in my opinion.
