Blooming council
« on: September 20, 2010, 11:51 »
no, make that not blooming  >:(

Council men have just been along  and weedkiller sprayed all the wildflowers and geraniums, aubretia, grasses and rockery campanulas that have been seeded and selfseeded, along the terrace path, which separates our houses from our gardens
Ok there were some grass and weed patches but it did look pretty sniff sniff.
When I complained he said that the paths have to be sprayed every 6 months.........well it's the first time in 3 years says I!  he's just taken over the job..says it all. :(

I said right I'll just put loads more tubs along the house wall and grow everything in them!
He said there should be no tubs on the pavement..........Jobsworth
There's no road, and the path's only for 10 houses and it's about 6ft wide, so it doesn't bother any of the residents, most of us have tubs....why do they have to be so nasty, I just don't know.

Sorry rant over.........it's just so depressing :(

If someone tripped over a carelessly placed pot or stumbled on a clump of campanula or an awkward aubretia the council could get sued

It's a crazy world  >:(

Don't let the bu*&%$s grind you down.  Dust yourself off and carry on. They probably won't be back for the next twenty years.  A new broom and all that  :D

Jobsworths! My DD and SIL work from home and have built an office at the end of their garden, behind high wooden gates. They receive clients at the office. When the jobsworth came from the council to inspect the finished building they were told they couldn't have the large tubs and troughs of plants on the gravel in case someone tripped over them. Bearing in mind  this is private property SIL said, "Of course I shall remove them forthwith, kind sir, thankyou." 4 years on, no further sign of council jobsworth and the tubs are flourishing.

Love the alliteration, Aunt Sally, very poetic :)

More to the point is that someone is more likely to twist their ankle in the pot holes in the path than fall over flowers/pots near the house  That's why it was sooo easy for the plants to seed themselves :nowink:
Ho hum......more tubs to be ordered! I hope they forget we are here for at least another 3 years

I had planted about a dozen cosmos and a few climbers in the tree pit outside our house and they all died suddenly - still trying to speak to the weedkiller contractor about it...

Are you sure it wasn't you?

We all know how much you like killing things off.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Aunt Sally - we had Health and Safety check at the business in our garden. The man said things like "someone may fall down those steps", "someone may trip into that pond".
I said "When I was a lad my mother had an expression at those times. It was "look where you're going"".
As far as I'm concerned that sentiment still applies.
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

Absolutely right willowman.

I think individuals should be responsible for themselves and those in their care - BUT - litigation lawyers may not agree with us  >:(
