we have now taken delivery of four two week old chicks to add to our three hens.  Thank you all for your help and advice.  They have settled in well and are in our conservatory in an indoor rabbit cage with heat lamp.  We are trying to pick them up several times a day (three of them tolerate us- the fourth hates it!)  Looking forward to when they are old enough (and it is warm enough!) for them to go out on the grass
