Title: Duck Eggs
Post by: Jellyhead on November 11, 2007, 21:45
Got our first 2 duck eggs this weekend. So proud. Made lovely yorkshires. Had to seperate 2 ducks last night as Bertie was picking on one of the others. I assume (dont know cos its white and I havent looked you know where:shock: ) but I assume it must be another male. Anyway I moved 2 and they are getting on fine

I prefer them to hen eggs for everything except scrambling (where they seem to take on a powdery texture).

I think they have more flavour so some folks might call that 'stronger'.

how old are your ducks,

im starting to think mine must both be boys as not an egg in sight, all they do all day is chitter chatter to each other like a couple of old men over a game of dominoes

Well only my Drake quacks and the others chitter chatter. 2 more eggs this morning so they are all getting the hang of it. I was trying to work out how old they are and I think they are about 30-32 weeks.  :D

We have 5 ducks altogether. 4 white ones I don't know what make they are as they were bought in a French market by a friend of mine for my birthday. The 5th one is a mallard drake. See piccie. Well what dya reckon.

I think the head looks like Muscovy , bit more about them here   It says they make more hissing chattering noises than quacks so maybe we are on the right track

the mallard won't breed with the muscovy's, muscovy are a different species to other ducks and geese, they'll only breed with other muscovy's :)  :)

Em Er he was a small and fluffy duckling in June. I think you may be right and they are cross Muscovies. Bertie is very pretty me thinks. Not for the table though Munty :) Just seen the last post and if that is the case, well I have seen Bertie having lots of em FUN with his girls so that puts paid to the full Muscovy theory :?

and sorry to dispel the x breeding theory but the muscovy will breed with other ducks pekin is a normal cross which gives a moulard.( not sure of spelling ) and all domestic ducks have origins in the mallard
