Hi everyone,

The kids and I harvested the last of our strawberries tonight (we cropped a total of 5 kilos this year!)  It was a sad moment (for the kids - secretly I am sick of them!)

However, I am keen to look at varieties that would just be coming into production about now.  It would be nice to try to stagger the harvest a bit more.

Can anyone recommend any varieties that I should look out for?

Thanks

I am in the same situation.
Try googling  'late strawberry variety'

I am looking at Florence and Symphony as lates, Christine as early and Albion
as all season.

There is quite a choice and some varieties are already sold out.

Thanks for this, I have heard of symphony before.  I would have liked to have heard what the flavour and cropping was like of some of these, but I think I will have to just go for it.

I get my leg pulled for mentioning what was originally a single Albion plant too often, but having not mentioned it since March 23rd (I checked!  :tongue2:) I can vouch for how prolific they are (now 30 plants after one year!)

They supposedly have 3 flushes of fruit throughout the season, but with the weather being so unfavourable this year they look as if they might continue slowly but surely without a break until the end of the "summer." Large delicious fruit, although with so little sun they need to be left until nearly starting to rot to get maximum sweetness.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

James Martin the chef loves Symphony

I have some Ostara which seem late to me and I'm picking them into October. They were cheap as chips from Wilko  :)

Thanks CQ.  Perhaps that was where I had heard of Symphony from  :D

We don't have a Wilko's here - I used to go to the one near my husband's house before we married, sadly we don't have one where we live now.  :(  I will look to see if I can find Ostara anywhere.
