as title says. there's some strawberry plants being sold locally at a fairly good deal i think (30p per plant), but is it too late to plant them?

if the plants are sold potted up, then you can buy and plant them any time of the year

Bargain! I would be snapping them up! I paid £1.50 each for mine but only got 6 - hope I will get runners from them so I can double my number next year

I brought 4 plants last year and removed the flowers and encouraged the runners to get more plants for this year. I just got 3" pots and pinned down the runners into the pots with bits of garden wire, I did more than double the four plants at the last count I got about twenty new plants which I planted end of last year - all growing on strongly now - so expecting a bumper harvest this year.

My first year I got given 25 plants.... I harvested 300 runners off them.. gave most away and kept 70.. great crop from them in their first year.

I am literally throwing strawberry plants at passers by, my lot went mad and sent happy runners off into the bark paths, hubby stripped a bag full to ditch, I potted up 15 for a friend and in three days they look amazing.

Hubby said he found another patch to strip yet. I am potting them up as I can't see them all go in the bin again, we only binned them as I was out of pots.

So far I've taken 110 strawberry plants out of a 4x8ft bed. My neighbours taken another 10 pots worth and I can STILL see groups of strawberry leaves in there! Here's hoping for bumper crops!

With the growing season about 3 weeks behind at the moment, I don't think its too late to grow anything. First year Strawberries are not expected to produce big crops anyway. Go for it.

I've planted about 25 new plants this year, plus a couple of trays of seed (maybe 100 seeds) I have a strawberry bed on the plot full of alpine strawberries that are a pain to harvest, so hopefully they will be dug out later and replaced with some from seed, the alpines will come home to be potted up where they are easier to harvest.
