Help second hand incubator 20 marran eggs need info

the first thing to do is check whether the incubator is working properly, make sure it is reaching the right temp and keeping it at the right temp ie turning on and of correctly.

Hi marran, 5 weeks ago i was in your shoes, 2nd hand incubator, got 6 eggs off a friend, put incubator on 24 hours before placing eggs, turned them at least twice a day, kept water tray topped up, 21 days later 6 new additions not bad for 1st timer eh, 6 out of 6, maybe beginners luck, chicks are 2 weeks old and doing great, ive now got 9 welsummers in, by the way im in workington not to far from you

my temp is set at 100f, and like i said just kept the water tray full in bottom of incubator, what make of incubator is yours?

very simply hold the eggs up to and very close to a light bulb if you can see through it the eggs are infertile, the eggs will not smell untill you brake the shells so a bit of advice DONT lol.

try turning eggs odd number of times each day.  this way they are not lying on same side over night (longest period when not being turned) and reduces chance of embryo sticking to side of egg.

don't be too hasty to throw away!  Give a few extra days to make sure clear, because you may have some late starters. Same with hatch date, give some extra days before you declare dead in shell and turn heat off.  hope you get a good hatch!
