Can I plant this rose in the garden?
« on: January 05, 2014, 16:23 »
I received a pretty white miniature rose in a wine/choccies/pot plant rose gift set for Christmas. It is in a 4-inch pot and is covered in flowers at the moment.  It doesn't state the variety anywhere.

Do you think it would be ok planted outside once it has finished flowering, or are there special varieties for house plant use?
No matter how many plants I have in my garden, I can always find room for one more.

As long as you harden your rose off, not just plant it out straight into the cold, it will be fine.

It might drop its leaves, but will grow more and with a feed of rose (or tomato) fertiliser in the Spring will flower again.

You might find that there is more than one plant in the pot - you can plant it as a clump or separate them.

I have some miniature roses on my plot and they have stood up to all sorts of poor weather and still come though just fine

Oooh, and you're absolutely right, it looks like there are 4 plants in the one pot! :-)

I think they will need potting up and nurturing a bit before planting out, as they look very small.

Don't be surprised if it grows in to quite a big bush.I planted one out quite a few years ago thinking that the largest it would get would be 2-3 ft like a patio rose. :nowink:I manage to keep it to about 6ft with some heavy pruning
