Herbaceous plant I.D.

Had to tidy up a border today and not quite sure what to do with this. Is it some sort of Acanthus perhaps? No flowers at the moment and there is quite a patch of it ranging from about 18" to 2' high. If no takers today I will take a photo of the whole bed tomorrow.

Looks a bit like a fern I have in my garden, couldnt tell you the type though as it was there when we moved in. Another pic would be good though! Its not yer typical frondy sort of fern.

Definitely not a fern Robin, but I can see what you mean. I should have provided a better clue. Its definitely herbaceous and grows quite densely.
