Title: Windows XP feature.
Post by: Kleftiwallah on July 12, 2021, 16:22
Hello everyone,  In the olden days we had Windows XP and in the bottom left corner of the screen was a small bow named 'search'.  Type in any word and for example Word, it would take you to the first use of your search word then every one following.

Does anyone know where this equivalent feature is on Windows 10 (I do miss it)! >:(

Cheers,   Tony.

Not 100% sure I understand your question Klefti, but pressing Ctrl-F should open a word search box whether you're viewing a web page or are actually in the 'Word' program itself.

Works in both Chrome and Edge browsers.

Let me try again,  you are in any document and you wish to see where the word 'flange' for example occurs in the text.  In XP you entered the word flange in the box bottom left and it says 'find next' so you click on this and it goes to the first then it will go through the text picking out all the words flange in the text.

I hope I have clarified my queary?

Cheers,  Tony.

Then yes, what JayG has described is the answer.  You need to open the Find box first.  Ctrl + F is the way to do it or, in Word, by looking for Find in the ribbon at the top of the document with all the other stuff like Bold / Italics etc in it.

Or if you wish to search everything on the computer, that is located with the start box

That's an internet explorer (application) feature rather than a windows XP (operating system) feature.

As per Yorkie - control and f will bring up the same feature in any modern browser but the search boxes all look different.

Where is this document saved? Is it on your computer, or online?

Booted the windows 10, next to start button is a magnifer. If I click on that I can either click where to search or just put in a word, it then searches online, documents etc.
