I can't remember what the Soil Association rulesare now for 'organic', when we were going to do it commercially, I think it was about 5 years in all, but to do it properly, you have to be 'certain' that nothing has been used on the ground and to be able to prove it I think.  But you can certainly say your stuff is 'organically grown' which is what I do.

And as you will see when you red through older threads, how can anyone really say their ground is organic, when all these pollutants fly around in the air anyway!  Parts of this country are still radioactive after Chernobyl!!!!

sory to0 dissapoint you but your not . you have to crop the plot without  any chemical interference or application  before you start your period of applying for organic status ie you have to have had use of the plot for that time concecutivly if my information is correct .

had a discussion like this before and in my opinion is its very hard to be 100% organic .once you have had your plot for 12 months i think all trace elements from nastys that have been used on the plot before you will be long gone.
then its down to you what you put on it
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

I have to agree with grannieannie, as plants also feed through their leaves, they must take in all sorts of nasties, especialy if you are near a main road, it must be very difficult to be %100 organic.

can i just point out ... cow muck is definatly  classed as not organic . cows are fed chemical additives such as cobalt copper magnesium ,selenium and other little nasties and you put it on the plot each year . ?

organic beef comes from the fact that they have removed any chemicals from the food chain ,they dont use fetilisers on the gras they eat or the grain they eat etc .it takes them a good while for the herds to become organic mate . if a farmer next door uses  weedkiller on his fields it can damage the status of the organic farm due to wind drift
