if it were me, i would take the belt off and punt it around a few motor factors/ belt specialists before it snaps.
try to get a kevlar replacement, bert, it will last a lot longer.
hope you have fun with it, beter than digging, if you ask me!!

hi bert, i cannot read the belt on my m1 but i had 2 that went on but were to tight. the spec on the is A25 13x830 so if you got a 13x880(section X  length) you should be OK. try to get it from some one willing to exchange if you need a shorter one.

and an objective.

I cannot understand how your engine can be so much closer to the drive pulley. And that is the only reason you would need a belt of only 400 diameter. Hell the pulleys must be 200mm each plus the clutch jockey you have to need a belt 800-900mm for it to work.

Hi could 'nt suss the photo thing out.But about this rotavator, its a mountfield patented vee disc clutch. The belt sits tight on the vee disc and is sandwiched between another vee disc on the engine side. there are no pulleys or adjusters. In my hand book it shows a clever idea what mountfield come up with [if you could still get the belts]Its to put the engine of the cultavator straight onto a M1 lawnmower base with out altering anything. Its swopped over by un doing one wing nut,and pulling out one spring pin.I got my industrial super clue and up to now the belt i made is still holding.makes life a bit easier.

I (my wife) has just found our instruction book for our M1. So I will scan it and e mail it to you and John, he might put it up on the site. I have just got a new computer and as yet not installed the scanner so it will be a few days.
