Title: Naive question about turkeys

Apologies this is probably the wrong forum to post this in but is a question thats bugged me for ages. You can buy chicken, duck,goose even ostrich eggs but you never see turkey eggs why is that?

I've lurked in this forum for a while enjoying your chook keeping exploits so many thanks in advance  :)

Hi Hectic

Welcome to the Hen House :)

I was once told it is basically through supply & demand, people only want Turkeys for Christmas time food and not their eggies.

Not sure myself really, think the other thing with Turkeys to get babies they have to artifically do "The Doo"  so maybe that is another reason all the turkey eggs are used up makin babies  :lol:

Would be intresting to find out proper though :)

My local shop sells turkey eggs and my friend sells her turkey eggs to me and they is just yummy................very creamy and they are fab for baking your sponge cakes with too.

Turkeys tend not to lay too many eggs and those that they lay  are wanted so that they can be hatched into chicks that are kept for meat production.
