BrandyWine Tom grow-off
« on: March 29, 2011, 21:34 »
Hi I have a small greenhouse and already have 5 Shirley toms destined for it, but I have heard a lot about BrandyWine Toms and wondered if anyone has 2 spare seeds they can let me have I will pay postage.

I only need two seeds because I only have space for one plant so I will sow two to get one.

Regards FB.

Hi,

I've just ordered a packet from here http://www.seedparade.co.uk/products/Tomato_Pink_Brandywine_15_seeds-125-0.html

If you PM me your address I'll pop a couple in the post when they arrive, don't worry about the postage, just put a few pennies in the next charity box you see!,

After sending some seeds to fatbelly, he challenged me to a 'Brandywine Tomato Grow-Off, North West Division'.  I readily accepted the challenge and the plan is to upload photos here with our progress, then put our end produce to the vote!

Here's the first shot, think I over watered a bit, 2 out of 4 germinated so far, going to grow 2 largest in growbag 'ring culture' method.

Brandywine 15 - 4

Over to you fatbelly....

There is also a variety called "Apricot Brandywine",  loverly colour but lacking the intense flavour of Brandywine.   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Now that the thread has become about growing the tomatoes, I'm going to move it to GYO and good luck to all participants  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks to Plot 18 for very kindly sending me the BrandyWine seeds. It was very good of him and in the best tradition of this forum..

Here are my two BW seedlings, I sowed them about 10 days ago and they will go into my unheated G/H within the next week.

Anyone else want to join our little comp then subject to Plot 18's agreement please feel free.

Regards FB

Here's one of my efforts, only growing two of them as I guess they're going to take up a fair amount of room.  I started them a while ago in case you didn't guess  :)

It was supposed to be, but now you mention it, it does look a bit different!  Hadn't noticed, will examine it closely next time I'm at the plot...

It may just be the picture, but it looks as though you've got green algae growing on the surface of the compost.  If you do have this, you're probably overwatering.
