Ive had a good look online and cant find anything below a hundred quid, which I just havent got at the mo.
I want one with a pipe that can take the smoke out of the shed (apols if thats obvious but I really have no clue where to start) Anyone got any ideas? Luckily for me OH is good at DIY so as long as its not too complicated he can manage it

Paula

PS maybe this should be in Design and Construction?

I've shifted it for you Paula. :)

You need to consider a hearth of some sort. Incombustible material of a minimum thickness so that heat and sparks don't transmit to wood.
Also need a plate in the roof where the flue goes through.

You can find small potbellies on ebay for reasonable price. Might have to wait for one local though. You can get ones that are designed to burn sawdust/shavigns and small offcuts.

If you want to read up on the regs and a few handy hints plus have a good look at a few stoves....

LINK

I've never had dealings with them but certainly a good resource.

Pot belly stove for under £70.
You'd have to support the floor of the shed so it was strong enough to take the weight, Like Rob said you need to make sure the floor don't go up in flames, also don't forget the walls if it's placed against one.
A simple floor could be made out of house bricks with a 3mm steel sheet on top. Stand the burner on that, again use steel sheet to protect the walls.

I wouldn't bother about reg's no need in a shed, but they will give you an idea of minimum thickness etc, but don't forget these are over engineered anyway.

You can buy lengths of flue from the link above I believe.

If you do buy a stove from machine mart buy your stove pipe elsewhere as pipe from there is some of the most expensive on line. Just a little heads up. :)

This lot have a small pot belly at £86, large at £104.

Advertise pipework etc but haven't looked.

None of the others I have marked do the budget end, or at least I cannot see any on the sites.

These cheap stoves are awful, you may be better off looking for a secondhand stove in your local free ads paper, its suprising what turns up.

Even if you buy a cheap one by the time you have bought the flue/roof flashing/cowling you've spent a fair bit....

It's some thing that deserves a fair bit of research.

At some point in the new year i'm going to have a go at building a wood burning stove from steel car wheel rims, example here:
http://www.lowimpact.org/windmill_hill_wood_burner_gas_bottle.htm
the second picture down, car rim stove on right.

There are a fair few plans on t'internet about using "empty" propane/butane gas bottles - but I'm very averse to taking an angle grinder to something explosive :!:
If I'm right i won't have to do any welding on the rims either, but I'll start a new thread when I finally get round to making something.

If you take the valve out the top and fill several times with water you will be ok but do rember the bottle is the property of the gas firm and they will not be willing to give permision but I wont tell if you dont

I got a small pot bellied one for my 10x8 shed; it's great and takes no time to warm up but with it being so small it needs lots of attention to stop it going out
