My plot has not been grown on for years,the bloke next door took his on and it had been the same .He told me it grows really well as do most of the other plot owners.
He also said I won't need to put down any fertiliser(Manure etc) for the first years growing.
I can get loads of horse manure but do I need to bother?

get as much manure as you can and stack it for digging in next autumn/winter.
You may find you still need to top up nutrients through this year with a general fertiliser

If it's not been used for some time, they say virgin soil is some of the best
However, fertiliser is food and if you don't feed you won't grow well
Soil test for nuetrients

I don't need to hoard it as loads of people on the allotments have horses.A friend of mine actually has 28 of the sites and he's got about 6 or 7 horses.
I'll just have to find well rotted pile.
