im afraid i have read this thread too late to make hampers this year but am definatly going to next year!!! we have lots of relatives and neighbours who im sure would love them .i also have a very creative sister in law who im sure will help.So the plan now is to start picking up jars and bottles etc in the sales and during the year ready for when my toms and veg are ready to pickle and make chutnet etc.It wont seem exensive if i spread the cost during the year. I have thought about doing them in recent years but now we have an allotment and chickens it will be so much nicer.so expect lots of questions next year on jam making and pickling :)

There are some excellent recipes by Val in the recipes link above -- or you can always buy her book of course  :D

I have just finished my hampers off.    1.99 boxes from dunhelm, straw my husband got from his friends farm,   they contain,  home made soap, choclate truffles (glace cherries soaked in brandy and covered in marzipan and chocolate) home made candles, green bean pickle. pickled eggs, pickled onions,  jam, fruit liqueur, wine, beetroot, and pickled cabbage,  i have also enclosed a note saying who made/laid/grew what and have asked for the bottles to be returned!!!   people who have seen them are really impressed...... i am having a sewing machine for my birthday and cant wait!!!!!!!! :D

Hi Adele, they sound super and I am sure everyone will love them. As for your sewing machine - I had one for Christmas last year and I've never looked back but beware it gets addictive!

They sound fabulous adele :)

Lucky people to receive one of those.  Something that has been made by the giver is so much more precious than a shop bought gift.

Sounds brilliant Adele, if your cleverer than me in a techy way (not too much of a challenge), perhaps you could post a photo of your finished article.

I've just gone for putting everything in gift bags but I'm sure the hampers would have looked prettier.

Hi, sorry had an internet problem and now i feel guilty for not taking a pic.   The hampers did go down very well though and I have already started the candle making for next years hampers!   As for the sewing machine,   we now have new dinning chair covers,  curtains and swags and taills that complement each other.    :D
