Luz de Otono Broad Beans
« on: November 18, 2020, 15:41 »
Just want to let people know that I tried this variety this year hoping to harvest beans in Autumn. They did grow well, but produced little crop (I'm in mid Devon by the way) I doubt whether any variety of B.Bean will really work in the UK. On the other hand, my Czar runners planted in July did really well and were still cropping as green beans into October early November. I planted them to use as Butter Beans and I'm about to harvest them for drying. Next year I'll plant Czar again, but earlier so that I can harvest the mature pods in earlier sunnier weather, because this time of the year the pods don't really turn papery, just soggy with mould. I'm also going to try Gigantes.

I agree, but here, it isn't an early bean - it seems to to ripen at the same time as all the others.

Here's an old-time thread from  Gandan57 who really does like to start his beans as early as possible  ::)   https://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=102812.msg1149753#msg1149753
