Title: spinach
Post by: Gill_Bell on June 15, 2010, 16:54
Hello
Perhaps someone can suggest why my spinach seedlings are just standing in a sulk about 4ins high and not growing? They were sowed in my greenhouse and hardened off and planted out several weeks ago, but no lovely new leaves. Any ideas?

Give them a boost with a liquid feed; something like Miracle Grow would be ideal as it is fairly high in nitrogen.  :)

my first sowing of spinach came to nothing (sown direct in March, as usual) but my replacement sowing done 10 days ago are romping away  :) perhaps we shall have spinach for tea after all :tongue2:

I've never started spinach in the greenhouse before, didn't know you could - maybe they don't like being transplanted?

I sow all my seeds in the greenhouse as I have problems with slugs and snails and cats and squirrels  so if they abit bigger when they have to brave nature they stand a better chance.
The spinach is now growing but would hardly say romping unfortunately. Trying new direct sowings under half plastic bottles
