pulled some garlic

lifted some garlic today as i need the room for toms and other stuff not quite ready but it will do,scapes are about to sprout  :D

That's a bit of a waste!!  :(
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

I have around 300 planted indoors and outdoors so a few early ones wont be missed,ive decided to  leave them indoors and plant toms between them so i still get a good crop  :nowink:

Green garlic like this is absolutely delicious  :D

I pulled some that had grown in the wrong place a couple of weeks ago mmmmmmmm.

when is the right time to pull garlic? I put some in October last year.
My favourite weed is a raspberry ;)

I've been using the weedy ones for salads and pasta, lovely to have fresh mild garlic if only small amounts. I have a couple of hundred too, so using those weak ones and also small onions.

when is the right time to pull garlic? I put some in October last year.

Garlic is ready to lift for storing when the leaves turn yellow, usually July. It can be pulled for use as green garlic at any time before that.

Ok if you have that many you can pull some green.. you didn't say you had a farm full!!

Full yellowing now is too early - its common to have tip yellowing now due to wind, dryness, too much water etc..   Did you prepare the ground properly before you planted - they may have run out of food?

I'll get one tomorrow and you can all see what I mean. Ground was fab nothing else on that plot has had problems just garlic its still growing but more yellow than I think it should be.  ???

Pulled an early one today and fried it with prawns and squid to go on top of a paella.  Tasted superb!!!

The sods aren't bulbing up yet so it might well be the same for the rest if they don't get their skates on.
