I'm a newbie and confused by all the types of net available in the catalogues
and how to hold it up.
I think I understand butterfly net over the cabbages.
Do I need the fleeces or insect netting over the root veg
What about the lettuces?
Peas and beans need insects so do they need net protected at all?
I don't want to make a big cage thing - the hoops look ok for me - but what can I make them from - they seem very expensive in teh catalogues.

Cabbages - net to keep the butterflies off. I think Debris netting is the net of choice (price-wise) rather than horticultural netting

Carrots need smaller mesh netting (I think) to keep the Carrot fly off.
Peas need netting to keep the Pidgeons off whilst they are germinating, and again when the pods appear (so can be more a open mesh)
Depending on what height you need, hoops made from blue underground mains water pipe should do the trick. For taller netting I think some verticals to support it here-and-there would do - drain pipe perhaps?

The black plastic water pipe is more resistant to UV than the blue. The blue is intended for underground only use, and there's not much sun down there.
