Is it correct to plant shallots as a whole bulb or should they be split like garlic then planted

Shallots are not planted in a clump, but broken up into what look like mini onions  :)

you buy a shallot as a single bulb and plant as such

If you use your own shallots saved from last year then you split them up into individual bulbs.  I never save any as I love them   :)
