First thing to remember is that ginger grow in tropical areas so will need somewhere warm to live throughout the year.

Buy a ginger piece, needs to be fresh looking, not withered, and have at least one "bud" end growing point sticking out, undamaged.

Plant it in damp compost ...soil based is best... with the bud uppermost. I covered the pot with a small cloche but a plastic bag will do. Leave it in the warmest light place you have in the house. It will grow a green shoot from each of those "buds" Feed with Baby Bio or some other general liquid fertiliser about once every two weeks. Move to a larger pot when it fills the first one.

Hope that helps a bit
