Title: Puppy will not eat puppy food
Post by: wendyg on November 28, 2011, 11:54
We have a 6 month old border terrier x min. Bull terrier who does not like puppy food.   We have tried various dry foods with various wet foods but he only takes a few mouthfuls, he does however, really like our 18 month old cocker spaniel's wet food.  I have read that puppys should stay on puppy food until they are a year old, what should I do if he will not eat his proper food?

We had this problem with a fussy Collie Cross - but all she wanted to eat was the cat food.  We tried every type of dried and wet puppy food.  In the end we found she'd tolerate one type of tinned wet puppy food but only if we just dripped a little of the cat food juice (they have pouches) over it ... worked long enough until she could have "adult" dog food.  Still insanely fussy - but will eat a mix of dried and tinned food (only one variety of each!) and dessert is always the cat food leftovers  :tongue2:

Good Luck!

Our Terrier cross pup was 4 months old when we rescued him and he was on the expensive Hills puppy food which he wouldn't eat, so we started giving him wet food and then at a later stage a mix of meat and biscuit, which he enjoyed for 13 happy years. :)
